Publish or Perish using PlayOnMac

Detailed instructions on how to download and install PoP for OS X using PlayOnMac Wine

Publish or Perish version 7 and later are available as native macOS applications. You no longer need a virtual machine with Windows inside as you did for previous versions of Publish and Perish.

According to information that we received courtesy of Simon Høgh, Publish or Perish works well with the PlayOnMac port of Wine if you download and install XQuartz, PlayOnMac, and Publish or Perish. Here are Simon's instructions, lightly edited.

Installing XQuartz

1. Download the XQuartz disk image from the XQuartz web site
2. Open the XQuartz disk image (its name ends with .dmg)
3. Open the XQuartz package (its name ends with .pkg)
4. Follow the onscreen instructions to install XQuartz
5. Eject the XQuartz disk image

Installing PlayOnMac

1. Download the PlayOnMac disk image from the PlayOnMac web site
2. Open the PlayOnMac disk image (its name ends with .dmg)
3. Drag the PlayOnMac application to your Applications folder
4. Enter your admin account name and password if required
5. Eject the PlayOnMac disk image

Installing Publish or Perish

1. Download the Publish or Perish installer and save it on your computer
2. Right-click on PlayOnMac and select Open from the popup menu
3. Select Open from the Identity of the developer cannot be confirmed dialog box
4. Enter your administrator account name and password if required
5. Select Yes from the Do you want to help PlayOnMac to make a compatibility database? dialog box
6. In PlayOnMac click the Install icon
   (You may have to wait a few minutes while PlayOnMac refreshes.)
7. In PlayOnMac, select the Accessories icon in the new window that opens
8. Select Publish or Perish in the list that appears
9. Click the Install button in the lower right of the window
10. Follow the onscreen instructions to prepare PlayOnMac for Publish or Perish
11. When asked to choose an installation method, select Use a setup file in my computer
12. Click the Browse button to select the Publish or Perish installer that you downloaded earlier
13. Click the Open button
14. Click the Next button to open the Harzing's Publish or Perish installer
15. Follow the onscreen instructions to install Publish or Perish
16. An icon named Publish or Perish will appear on your desktop once installed

Configuring Publish or Perish

1. Select Publish or Perish in PlayOnMac
2. Click the Configure icon
3. If it is not already selected, click on the General tab
4. Click the + button to the right of the Wine version popup menu
5. Select 1.9.10 (or later) from the list, then click the > button
6. Follow the onscreen instructions to install Wine 1.9.10 (or later)
7. Close the window
8. Select 1.9.10 (or later) from the Wine version popup menu
9. Click the Yes button in the Warning dialog box
10. Click the Wine tab
11. Click the Configure Wine button
12. Select the Desktop Integration tab
13. Under Theme select No Theme, then click the OK button
14. Click on the Install components tab
15. Select gdiplus from the list, click the Install button
16. Close the window

You should now be able to run Publish or Perish.

Note: Publish or Perish will appear as a window in Wine, and not in a window named Publish or Perish.
