This page is a special one to commemorate the Chinese New Year dinner party that we held on 8 February 2000. We don't normally do this (although you can find all previous dinners with their menus on our previous dinners page), but this one has a special meaning.
Over the next few weeks we will be adding pictures, material about the Chinese New Year and associated traditions, plus information about China in general. Keep an eye out for new developments our editorial pointers will also keep you up to date.

The Chinese new year started on 5 February 2000 (with the start of the new moon) and is the year of the Dragon. Dragon years are considered to be excellent years for boys in particular: the Dragon is the traditional symbol of the Emperor.
