8.3.1 Google Scholar shows a much broader impact

Comparing Ghoshal's Google Scholar citation record with his ISI citation record again shows us how much broader the coverage of Google Scholar is in the Social Sciences (for more details on this see Chapters 13 and 16). Ghoshal's most cited book (Managing Across Borders) doesn't even show up in ISI if you search for his name as he is not the first author.

However, even searching for Christopher Bartlett only finds some 800 ISI citations, less than a fifth of the Google Scholar citations. The same is true for their Transnational Management book which registers just over 100 ISI citations in ISI, completely negating its important impact on the field. Ghoshal's journal articles fare a bit better in ISI, but even for them Google Scholar citations are generally three times as high.
