12.2 Doing bibliometric research for journals

There are two main types of bibliometric research one can conduct with PoP: evaluating the impact of journals and comparing a specific set of journals on a range of characteristics. Below I discuss each of these in a bit more detail. For more information on how to improve the accuracy of journal impact queries, please refer to Chapter 4. Unlike our discussion for authors, I will not discuss the selection of the population of journals in any detail as most studies simply focus on journals in a specific discipline.
