York

York is an ancient city, dating from pre-Roman days. It has a rich history that includes Roman and Viking conquerors. Among its many museums (see below) are the Yorkshire Museum, covering Roman, Anglo-Saxon, and medieval periods, and the Jorvik Viking Centre, about the occupation by Vikings.

This museum covers a thousand years of York's (and Britain's) history, ranging from the Roman days, through the Anglo-Saxon and medieval times. In addition, special exhibitions have included legendary monsters, dinosaurs, and currently (from 22 October) the Jurassic.
