Clearly more expensive than other forms of public transport, but indispensable for most international travel. If you check the low-cost operators, you might even find prices that are actually lower than some alternative means of transport. More about air travel...
Bicycles are a bit of an underdog in many parts of England, including Bradford. What with the hills, lack of bicycle-friendly infrastructure, and want of facilities (secure bicycle stands, showers, etc.), bicycles are a relatively rare sight and ditto means of transport over here.
(Note: "buses" normally run locally, while "coaches" operate over longer distances.) Although not always the fastest means of transport, buses and coaches are generally cheap (by UK standards) and cover a large number of destinations, both in England and on the continent. If you have your own car, that may prove the best means to go out and about. Failing that, there are a large number of taxi and private hire operators. (The latter are like taxis, but less regulated.) For trips within town and its close vicinity, including shopping trips, these may be a good alternative, particularly if you share the taxi and costs between a few people.
These come into play if you go by surface-bound transport from England to the continent. Depending on the required level of comfort and whether or not you take your own car, prices range from fairly low to downright expensive.
Since the privatisation of the railways in England a few years ago, the number of train operators has increased considerably. Although in theory an efficient means of covering both short and long distances, in practice you have to deal with a number of different operators, a fairly complicated fare structure, lots of train-changing, and a not-so-high level of punctuality.
