Ingredients (serves 7-8 as a side dish)

Preparation

  1. Cut the celery and onions into narrow strips.
  2. Partly fill a bowl with water and salt, then place the celery and onion strips into the water and mix them well. (A)
  3. Cut the cabbage and cucumber into narrow strips.
  4. Add salt and mix them well in a second bowl. (B)
  5. Mix vinegar, vegetable oil, some salt, and much sugar into a third (and largest) bowl. This will become the specialty dressing.
  6. Chop or squeeze the garlic cloves into the dressing and mix. (C)
  7. Take out the celery and onion from bowl (A), squeeze out the water, and mix them into dressing (C).
  8. Take out the cabbage and cucumber from bowl (B), squeeze out any water, then add them to dressing (C) as well.
  9. Add a little black pepper, then stir the dressing and vegetables thoroughly.
  10. Present the salad on a bed of lettuce leaves, and decorated with tomato slices and cucumber.
