Bradford is synonymous with curries, of course. Below is a small list of places to get them, but be aware that there are many, many others. We have annotated some of the entries with remarks of our own but please note that these reflect our tastes and opinions; your experiences may be different. Send your own comments, reviews, and favourite addresses to dinners@tarma.com.
Note: Some of the Indian restaurants specialise in a particular style of cooking (mostly Balti or Tandoori). If that is the case, we have indicated the style in parentheses.
Bengal Brasserie
Medium-sized restaurant. The food is good, but not outstanding. Service
is polite, if a bit silent. Also does take-aways.
Where: 198/200 Keighley Road (at the bottom of Emm Lane), Frizinghall,
Bradford
Telephone: (01274) 543350
Bombay Brasserie
Large restaurant right in the heart of the city. Also does some English
dishes.
Where: 1 Simes Street, Westgate, Bradford
Telephone: (01274) 737564
Mumtaz
Well-known restaurant with extensive (separate) deli sales counter.
Reviews (see Bradford Curry Guide, below) range from "excellent"
to "highly overrated". We like the food, but it is a bit
pricey compared to some others.
Where: 386-400 Great Horton Road, Bradford
Telephone: (01274) 571861

Shiraz (Balti)
Small and unpretentious restaurant, but with excellent food, very
friendly service, and very moderate prices. Our personal favourite.
Also does take-aways and sells Indian sweets.
Where: 113 Oak Lane, Manningham, Bradford
Telephone: (01274) 490176
You will find dozens of addresses in the Yellow Pages. For more addresses and
online reviews of many of Bradford's curry restaurants, try the
